This morning I've been sitting at the kitchen table enjoying occasional sips of coffee and enjoying what is soon to be the last of the snow for this winter, I hope.
I know for many people the first month of their new year's resolution is over and they're in their second month of it. Congratulations' to those who have succeeded thus far and commend those who are going to give it another try even if they were not happy with outcome of the first month.
I must be honest. I don't do resolutions. I don't like the word. Then again there are not many words with the prefix of "re", that I do like. I create plans and goals instead. Those can be adjusted, customized, kept or abandoned or even postponed. I don't wait until January to create them. Usually for me as summer winds down, and autumn arrives, I'm spending some time coming up with some of my plans and goals. And while I do create them for the upcoming year, it seems that I have gotten into a pattern of reassessing from two to three times a year, and after the past couple of weeks, this weekend I've been resting as much as I can and doing just that, examining goals and plans. What can wait and what can't.
Everyone here, which consists of two people, including myself; and a cat, have caught a cold and we're on the mend. Today, another crockpot of chicken soup has been going for a couple of hours now and smells amazing. Also, as soon as banana's dethaw, I will be making banana- blueberry muffins for breakfast this week. Tomorrow I return to work, so I am taking the time this weekend to relax, and enjoy a bit of things I haven't in a while. Baking, cross-stitching, etc.,
I've also been thinking about the last couple of weeks. I have learned a few valuable lessons and as a result have created a new list in preparation of next winter and so that is now to be included in what I'd already planned. That list includes things to get and things to do throughout the upcoming months so that I am better prepared. For example, a new salamander, and extra plow snow tires on the list of things to get. I've been debating if I want another small or large freezer or if somehow I can make due with what I have as I have.
I suppose on that list could include a couple of questions I need to get answered, also. For example, how to keep ice from building up on a slanted metal roof? This winter it's been exceptionally thick and looks like it's suspended mid-air. Kind of cool to see, not so cool to be trying to walk under to get to or from the car back indoors. So, I hope that as the clouds move out, the sun starts being visible in blue skies and starts melting the ice and snow that when it crashes no person, nor animal or bird is caught near it.
