I am thankful that the week is over, and hopeful that winter is on it's way out of here until November. The trees have had their rest, and many of nature's creatures have to. I'm ready for warmer weather and the furnace not being on, although I've been thankful for that too. It is snowing and blowing however I've seen brief moments of sunshine.
This morning- the water froze part way through a washer machine cycle. Salamander is dethawing those. Been thinking a lot about preps for the upcoming winter. For small or short power outages and for camping trips I got a few items to recharge phones and such. But bigger for home looks like I will be getting a generator and maybe even an additional back-up generator and stocking up on kerosene.
This past week a cb antennae came down on the porch roof and collapsed it before ending up in a neighbor's yard. Fortunately, all the snow we had saved the neighbor's fuel and power lines from being harmed and no one was injured or hurt there or here although there was a cat who must have been on or under the porch when it happened, and although shaken up, it was okay too. I don't know if the porch will be done this year, if not the steps will be done and wider before the next winter starts.
A number of things to focus on in addition to the porch and back-up generators now. Groceries, household, personal and cat supplies and of course pet safe salt for porch and driveway. Something else I've been considering. Finding out the cost of a professional tree trimmer and possibly getting a tree dramatically reduced in spite of the fact that birds like to build nests in that tree.
Then again there's lots of different kinds of trees in the back yard so they will be okay. I was thinking of getting a couple hummingbird baths to put on the yard lamp. Good place to hang them however I need to focus on the above first so if not this year, then maybe next.
The water pipes now dethawed. Today makes the second time during this winter season where drain pipe froze to. A good opportunity to take a break from washing dishes daily to be sure however looking forward to when I can get that done too.
As for today, it's been snowing very small flakes and there's still a breeze out there nowhere near what it was yesterday. So yep, I'm hoping this is the last weekend of frozen pipes, snow and ice!
